Trichy, also known as Tiruchirappalli, is an industrial and educational city in Tamil Nadu, India. Trichy is the administrative capital of the same-named district. The city is situated on the banks Kaveri River. The city is Tamil Nadu's fourth most populous municipal corporation and metropolitan agglomeration. There are many theories regarding the origins of the place's name. Tiruchirappalli gets its name from the Sanskrit word "trishirapuram," which is made up of the words "trishira," which means "three heads," and "palli," or "puram," which means "city." Trishira, the three-headed demon, is said to have prayed to Lord Shiva near the city and received favours.
