"The name Satkosia was originated from two words Sat means seven means Kos means two miles which indicate the gorge as 22km or 14 miles. It is also popularly known as Gorge Sanctuary as the mighty river Mahanadi river flows through a gorge stretch of 22km with an exhilarating sight. The very famous Satkosia Tiger Reserve encompasses an area of about 963.87sq.km. Once a time it was a part of Abhaya Aryana which is an unending forest range that connected the state through Central India. It was established as a wildlife Sanctuary in 1976. It is one of the best ecosystems in the whole country by protecting a huge variety of flora and fauna."
