Ranchi, the state capital of Jharkhand, is a picturesque town on the Chhota Nagpur Plateau. Before the state was carved out of Bihar, it was the summer capital. Ranchi gets its name from the word ‘Archi,' which means bamboo forest. At a height of 2,140 feet above sea level, the town is completely covered in red soil.
