Gopalpur is located in the southernmost part of Odisha which is also, one of the hidden gems of India. It is located in the Ganjam district very close to the coast of the Bay of Bengal. It is just 150 km from the capital city of Odisha, ie., Bhubaneshwar. Formerly known as Paloura during the Kalinga dynasty and it got its name Gopalpur after the 18th century. The very famous Lord Krishna Temple is located very close to Gopalpur Beach. This place is a vibrant and exciting place that will make you indulge fully in its beauty and serenity. There was a time when this place was a prominent port for trading in Odisha. The port is not working nowadays but its tremendous beauty is still there to wrench your heart. The most beautiful and blissful place where one could visit in Gopalpur is its beach. Gopalpur Beach has a very distinct atmosphere and charm which is so soothing and calm that it emerged as a hotspot for tourists nowadays. The beach is well maintained by the Gopalpur Tourism Board. To get a panoramic view of the area one can climb up to the lighthouse. From its top, you'll be able to see the view of some areas of Chilika Lake. It opens from 03:30 PM to 05:30 PM.
